The contributions of former secretary of state George Shultz are recalled in this three-episode doc, which opens with a recap of his life up until being tapped by Ronald Reagan to become secretary of state in 1982 and the initial challenges he faced. "If the president asks you to do something, and you feel you are reasonably competent to do it, then I feel as though you have a duty to serve," he explains. Among the challenges: increasing Cold War tensions and the Israel-PLO conflict in Lebanon.
"The Incredible Human Journey" Tonight at 11 on Travel. Anthropologist Alice Roberts begins her exploration of how early humans left Africa to colonize the world. In the series opener, she visits a site in Ethiopia where the earliest known anatomically modern humans lived. Later, she explores different routes their descendants could have taken to leave the continent.
