December 13, 2010 *spoiler alert*

"How I Met Your Mother" Tonight at 8 on CBS. Lily and Marshall receive shocking news that prompts the gang to reflect on their own lives; Robin gets a new job; and Ted begins carrying out tasks as Punchy's Best Man. Alex Trebek has a cameo.

"Vampire Diaries" Tonight at 8 on The CW. The second season begins with Elena discovering her uncle John's bloody body and learning Jeremy's fate, and Damon realizing that Katherine has returned. Meanwhile, Caroline is taken to the hospital following a car accident, and Tyler's mysterious uncle Mason arrives in town.

"Moguls & Movie Stars: A History of Hollywood" Tonight at 8 on TCM. The series finale, "Fade Out, Fade In," examines the change in the cinema-scape from 1960 to '69 as old studio heads died and maverick new filmmakers addressed controversial topics, such as drugs, antiestablishment cynicism and changing political attitudes.

"Monday Night Football:Ravens at Texans" Tonight at 8:30 on ESPN. Baltimore (8-4) at Houston (5-7). Workhorse RB Arian Foster powers Houston against Haloti Ngata and a stout Ravens defense. Baltimore is one of three AFC teams the Texans have never beaten, along with the Jets and Chargers, who won November meetings.

"Mariah Carey: Merry Christmas to You" Tonight at 9 on ABC. Mariah Carey performs songs from her second holiday album, "Merry Christmas II You," including "Oh Santa!" Taped at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles.

"The Closer" Tonight at 9 on TNT. Chief of Police Tommy Delk (Courtney B. Vance) enlists the team to investigate thefts at various medical-marijuana dispensaries. The seemingly innocuous assignment takes a perilous turn, however, when one robbery results in murder. Before long, the case even tests Brenda's readiness to rise to a higher departmental post.

"Hawaii Five-0" Tonight at 10 on CBS. Chin Ho is abducted and an explosive device is strapped to his chest. The abductor is Victor Hesse, who murdered McGarrett's father.
